In the Northeast suburbs of Osaka, Japan there is a train station built around a 700 year old tree. Original plans for the station called for the tree to be cut down, but people who attempted to cut it down were met with bad luck, and some locals claim they saw smoke rise from the bottom of the tree when they tried to remove it. Officials then became superstitious and they changed plans so that the tree would be able to stay, and it still stands to this day at Kayashima station.
