A Giant Gift for Poor Neighborhood

Now the 12,000 residents of one of the poorest neighborhoods of Colombian city of Medellin can shorten their 35-minute hike on foot up the hillside to 6 minutes.

Officials in Medellin inaugurated a giant, outdoor escalator worth $6.7 million. The electric stairway is divided into six sections and has a length of 384 meters (1,260 feet). It is free to use.
