Dubai Metro Network
The Dubai Metro is well known all over the world for its longest fully automated, and driverless network. Its first line, the Red Line, partly operates. It was opened on September 9, 2009, at 9:09:09 by the Ruler of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Green Line is still under construction, and two more lines are planned.
The construction cost of the Dubai Metro project is about $7.6 billion. The ridership has recently reached 130,000 passengers a day, and it is expected to rise to 170,000 passengers a day by the end of 2010.
The Dubai Metro is the first urban train network in the Arabian Peninsula. When completed, the Red and Green Lines will have 70 km (43 mi) of lines, and 47 stations. Still, the Roads and Transport Authority's master plan includes 320 km of metro lines up to 2020.
The maximum speed of the trains is about 90 km/h. Trains run every 5-7 minutes.
Because this metro is driverless, you can take pictures standing near the windshield in the first cabin (Gold Class cabin). Just keep in mind, that most trains have Gold Class cabins designed for people who are ready to pay twice the price of regular tickets, and women with children only.
