Halden Prison is the second largest prison in Norway, capable of accommodating 252 inmates. The prison applies a humane approach to the penitentiary and rehabilitation work. The inmates have individual cells with bathroom and a flat-screen TV. The windows are made out of reinforced glass and have no bars. There is a shared kitchen and a lounge for every 10-12 cells, which resembles of a student’s dormitory. The guards in Halden don’t typically wear arms, and half of them are women.
